We created a remote-working section on etaxjobs in 2020, once it became clear that this was going to become the norm during the pandemic. Also referred to as work from home tax jobs or WFH tax jobs, these roles will involve either 1) 100% working from home or 2) a split of home and office working or 3) 100% remote working whilst the country is in lockdown, with a view to returning to the office in due course.

What will be interesting to see is how remote-working tax jobs will be paid in the longer term. For example, if you work for a Big 4 tax team in London but you are permanently based from home in Yorkshire, should you be paid a London salary or a Leeds salary ? Arguably the London salary is only higher because of the increased cost of living in the capital. On the other hand, London clients may pay a higher hourly charge-out rate for tax work and therefore the salary supplement could be justified.
