Cross-Border Private Client Tax Director

A well-established, internationally connected professional services firm is looking to strengthen its private client tax practice with the appointment of an experienced Director. This is a chance to step into a senior, client-facing role within a firm that has built a strong name for advising wealthy individuals and families on cross-border matters spanning the United States and the United Kingdom.

About the Role

The successful candidate will take ownership of a varied caseload of clients whose personal tax position touches both American and British tax systems. The role blends hands-on advisory and compliance work with a genuine leadership remit, coaching junior colleagues, shaping how the team operates and helping to win new business. It would suit someone who already operates at Director level (or equivalent) and is ready to take on broader people and practice-management responsibility.

Who the Team Works With

The practice supports a client base that includes wealthy individuals with ties to both countries, family offices, principals from investment and private capital backgrounds, and partners in major professional firms. Services cover everything from annual filing obligations through to advice on residency status, domicile, wealth structuring, and succession/estate planning.

What You'll Be Doing

* Building your own pipeline of new work, drawing on personal contacts and by teaming up with colleagues in other parts of the business
* Taking ownership of technically demanding client engagements from start to finish, balancing rigour with a pragmatic, commercial mindset
* Coaching and supervising more junior members of the team, helping them build their own technical and client-handling skills
* Getting involved in broader people matters - retention, training, and staff development across the group
* Helping to run the team day-to-day, including workload planning and oversight of junior staff

What We're Looking For

* A track record operating at a comparable senior level within a professional services or advisory environment
* Deep, current technical knowledge covering the full spread of client tax obligations, including the ability to review and sign off American and British tax filings
* Hands-on experience advising individuals who are not UK-domiciled, as well as other wealthy private clients
* Commercially minded, with strong instincts for managing and growing client relationships
* Comfortable negotiating and holding a well-argued position under scrutiny
* Not afraid to push back constructively when it's the right call
* A natural people-manager, able to bring on junior staff and get the best from them
* A collaborative, team-first approach to work
* Demonstrable success turning opportunities into billable work
* Familiarity with billing processes and managing the financial side of a portfolio
* Well organised, comfortable juggling multiple complex pieces of work under time pressure
* Strong personal organisation and the discipline to hit deadlines consistently
