Tax Counsel (Financial Products) - New York

A market leading Law Firm has a rare and unique opportunity to join its Tax Department at Counsel Level. You will support the continued growth of the firm’s financial products tax practice.

The practice advises clients on a broad range of sophisticated tax matters relating to capital markets, derivatives transactions and financial products. It is also an important contributor to the firm’s structured products work and premier Asset Management Practice, including advising hedge fund clients on structured trades and other tax-driven investment strategies.

The practice is currently operating at exceptionally high capacity, existing client relationships are expanding, and the practice has developed a significant pipeline of new clients and matters.

Adding an experienced special tax counsel would provide the senior-level capacity required to support this growth while maintaining timely, best-in-class client service. The hire would increase leverage, allow matters to be staffed more efficiently at the appropriate level, and enhance the supervision and development of more junior associates.

Given the highly interconnected nature of the practice, these relationships have the potential to generate significant opportunities not only for Tax, but across the firm, particularly within Asset Management, Capital Markets, and Financial Regulation and Derivatives.

The hire therefore represents more than a response to current workload. It would enable the practice to scale more effectively, improve leverage and create additional partner capacity for business development, while supporting the continued growth of strategically important client relationships and generating broader revenue opportunities across the firm. Therefore there is clear bandwidth and space for this to morph into an equity tax Partner role.

The firm in question would love to speak to those with experienced in advising investment funds, asset managers, trading firms, banks, or this wider ecosystem. Prior experience in cross-border structuring and financial products—including credit, derivatives, trading strategies, structured notes, securitizations would be highly advantageous. Inhouse, BIG 4 or of course Legal background or a combination all considered.
