Senior Manager Tax Reward and Employment, PwC Uxbridge (moving to Watford)

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an Employment Tax Manager to become part of our Reward and Employment team in the South East, which is a rapidly growing region and priority focus for PwC. This role will be based in our North of London office (currently Uxbridge, but moving to the Watford area in late 2020), but there will be regular travel to client sites and other offices across the SE expected.

Our team will provide you with the opportunity to put into practice your employment tax technical skills in a stimulating and challenging environment. You will also play a key role in the national Reward and Employment network and you will lead and participate in regular network events with technical updates and training opportunities.We believe that PwC has the strongest and most highly-integrated group in this area of services in the market and this breadth of capability provides unparalleled access to a high quality client base (both private and public sector) that will support fantastic personal and career growth for the successful candidate.

Examples of projects that our managers in the South East have been involved in recently include:

A review of the employment tax processes and controls for an international Group for the purposes of documenting risks and controls and supporting Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) requirements.
A review of the expenses spend for a large employer using our in-house developed analytics platform to identify control weaknesses, potential exposures, policy improvements, as well as possible savings.
Supporting a large restaurant chain through a National Minimum Wage enquiry.Participating in a stakeholder workshop with a large and complex employer who rely heavily on the use of contractors as part of their workforce to discuss the business implications of changing IR35 legislation and to develop a project plan.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to being:-

Being self-reliant and confident in dealing with fast moving events and developing strategies to solve complex technical challenges
Managing and delivering projects and having an appreciation of the risks involved to plan ahead, prioritise and document decisions, involving senior staff as appropriateWorking collaboratively within and managing client teams and contributing to the development of your own and the team’s technical, financial and commercial acumen
Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients
Drafting technically complex advice and supervise the work of junior staff (managing their personal and technical development, undertaking research and analysis)
Developing a personal network of contacts internally and externally and actively promote the PwC brand through social media and external networking eventsActively targeting and evaluating opportunities for developing new client opportunities and services and supporting client proposal activities
You will be responsible for building close relationships with a wide range of clients, working both independently and in a team.
You will benefit from a progressive environment and will be encouraged to develop client relationships, technical and people management skills.
The work is technically stimulating, rarely routine and offers opportunities to help solve our clients’ employment tax and related business and HR issues.
The work is wide-ranging and you will have the opportunity to work with Senior Managers, Directors and Partners across the tax practice in the South East.
The team will provide you with the opportunity to put into practice your tax technical skills in a stimulating and challenging environment. Client teams range in size based on the client and nature of the work. You will have a Career Coach who will manage your performance, well-being and development.

Essential Skills and Attributes

UK professional qualification (CTA, ACA or legal qualification with tax experience) or overseas equivalent
Significant Employment Tax experience either in a professional services firm, an in-house role, or within HMRC
Strong organisational and interpersonal skillsA commitment to delivering great client serviceGood communication skills, written and oral
Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
Ability to work flexibly in a regional team and through virtual networks
Able to apply good judgement, consult appropriately and manage risks
Resilient, able to work to deadlinesEncouraging and motivational to junior staff
Strong analytical skills in terms of understanding the interaction of processes, technologies and people
An interest in technology and the benefits that it can bring in terms of efficiency, control and informational capabilities
