Role overview

We are seeking a seven month maternity cover for our VAT specialist starting towards the end of May. The role is primarily compliance based, ensuring the VAT liability calculated by in-country accountants is appropriate, that supporting evidence is available and returns and payments are made on time. It also involves working with external advisors in the UK and across EMEA, building collaborative relationships.

Role description

• Review and approval of all VAT returns and supporting SOX documentation for the 25+ EMEA entities
• Reviewing and approving all UK and EMEA VAT payments
• Reviewing and approving all applicable ESL statistical returns for the EMEA entities
• Manage VAT audits, working with external advisers where necessary
• Inputting VAT data into OneSource Workflow Manager, ensuring tasks are signed off on the tax process management system and supporting documentation is uploaded to create an audit trail
• Create FAS5 reserves and documentation for EMEA
• Ensure SOX compliance of the EMEA VAT process, create required control documents and manage internal and external audit of the SOX processes
• Manage special projects associated with EMEA VAT as assigned by the Tax Director

Qualities sought

• Strong technical knowledge, particularly of UK VAT
• Familiar with high level compliance requirements in major EMEA countries.
• Able to demonstrate the core Sabre values of integrity, teamwork and ownership of results
• Good time management and organisation skills
• Quickly builds relationships and trust with tax and accounting colleagues in the UK and EMEA
• Able to manage work load independently
• Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate tax issues to non tax people
• Attention to detail – a desire to get it right first time

Required Experience/Qualifications

• Relevant degree
• CTA qualification
• 5 or more years dealing with VAT compliance and reporting across EMEA

The EMEA Tax team

The Sabre EMEA tax team is located in Richmond (next to the station) and has responsibility for tax planning and compliance in approximately 30 countries across EMEA as well as providing information to the US tax team for reporting requirements. There are five people in the team; 3 corporation tax, 1 VAT and the Senior Tax Director who reports to the global VP Taxes based in Dallas in the US.
