Your new role
Working in the in-house tax team you will be supporting the business with all the company's taxes, including those of the Irish branch. This includes corporate tax, VAT, Machine Gaming Duty, Customs Duty, Intrastat, EC Sales Lists, tax accounting under IFRS and PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA). The tax team is an important function in the business and you will gain significant exposure to the business by working with the tax manager to ensure the company remains tax compliant, review the tax impact of business initiatives whilst looking for opportunities to create efficiency in both processes and tax savings.
* Preparing the UK corporate tax return including the preparation of any tax reliefs and/or claims, e.g. research and development; rollover claims; analysing expenditure incurred on new openings and refurbishments for tax.
* Assisting the groups's Irish tax adviser to prepare the ROI corporate tax return.
* To prepare the UK and Irish VAT return.
* To prepare the Machine Gaming Duty returns.
* To support the Customs process for exporting alcohol from the UK to the ROI and reclaiming the UK duty.
* To provide ad hoc tax advice to other areas of the business including property, Accounts Payable and Commercial as well as other areas of Finance.
* To submit monthly Intrastat and EC Sales List filings.
* To liaise with HM Revenue & Customs and the Irish Revenue.
* Assist the tax manager to identify and mitigate tax risks and identify tax saving opportunities.
* Assist the tax manager to establish the tax strategy for the wider Finance team and reviewing key issues affecting the department
* To prepare balance sheet reconciliations for tax accounts.
* Tax experience essential.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered you must have the following skills and attributes;
* Tax experience essential.
* Tax qualification (chartered tax adviser or associate of tax technicians) is desirable but not essential.
* Sound accounting skills (IFRS) and understanding of deferred tax.
* Computer literate including tax reporting software (e.g. Alphatax).
* Ability to research technically complex areas and advise the business of these in non-technical terms.
* Experience of fixed asset related tax and property tax is desirable.
* Independent, driven and proactive.
* Good communication skills.
* Strong team player.
