Tax Senior Manager
London Bridge | £70,000 - £90,000 + Commission | Hybrid | Progression to Head of Tax & Partner
Clark Wood is working with a modern, ambitious and rapidly growing London accountancy practice looking for a Tax Senior Manager to build and ultimately lead its Tax department.
This is much more than a standard Senior Manager position. You'll work directly with the firm's founders, have significant autonomy over the tax offering and a defined progression route to Head of Tax, Salaried Partner and ultimately Equity Partner.
The firm specialises in SMEs and owner-managed businesses, with growing advisory work across tax planning, restructuring, R&D, HMRC enquiries, business disposals and employee/investment incentive schemes.
The Role
- Advise SME owners across Corporate, Personal and Partnership Tax
- Lead complex tax planning, restructuring, succession and exit projects
- Advise on EMI, EIS, SEIS and ERS
- Manage and respond to HMRC enquiries
- Support the wider accounts team on complex tax matters
- Build relationships with existing clients and external referrers
- Generate and develop new Tax Advisory work
- Recruit and lead the tax team as the department grows
- Work directly with the founders on the strategy and direction of the Tax practice
What We're Looking For
- CTA qualified with strong post-qualified experience
- Strong technical knowledge across SME / OMB taxation
- Confident advising business owners directly
- Experience across both compliance and advisory work
- Commercially minded with an interest in business development
- Able to explain complex tax matters clearly to clients
- Ambitious to ultimately lead and grow a Tax department
- Experience across every technical area isn't required
ProgressionThis position has a clearly defined route:
Tax Senior Manager → Head of Tax → Salaried Partner → Equity Partner
The intention is for the successful candidate to progress to Head of Tax within approximately 2–3 years, subject to the growth of the department, with a route to Equity Partner within approximately 3–4 years.
Package & Benefits
- £70,000 - £90,000 basic salary
- 15% commission on first-year fees from newly generated Tax work
- 7.5% commission on first-year fees from new work generated from existing clients
- Annual salary reviews
- Discretionary firm-wide profit share
- Hybrid working – minimum 3 days in the office / with clients
- 25 days' holiday + bank holidays
- Private medical insurance
- Pension
- Professional subscriptions covered
- Training and CPD costs covered
- Genuine route to Equity Partnership
Interested? This is a particularly strong opportunity for a technically capable and commercially ambitious CTA who wants to build something of their own rather than simply inherit another portfolio.
