Mitchells Roberton is a medium-sized law firm based in Glasgow. As one of the oldest firms in Scotland, we can trace our roots back to the 1740s. As a firm we focus on four main areas of law: Private Client, Residential Property, Commercial Property and Dispute Resolution.
The Private Client Department is our largest department and is central to the strategy of the firm, representing a significant proportion of our overall turnover. The Private Client team provides tax and succession advice to a wide range of clients. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Tax Professional to join the team to provide continued support to our existing clients and staff and who will work with the Partners to build and expand the Tax Department.
Your Role
Your key responsibilities will include:-
● Preparing and submitting Tax Returns for individuals, Trusts and Estates;
● Preparing residuary income statements and R185 certificates;
● Management of the Trust Registration Service;
● Providing advice on all aspects of Income Tax and CGT for Individuals, Trusts and Estates;
● Ability to advise on CGT for residential property disposals;
● Completing and submitting CGT Returns for Trusts and Estates;
● Mentoring and developing junior staff members interested in developing their tax experience;
● Providing and delivering internal departmental training to peers on tax matters for trusts and estates;
● Working with autonomy to grow the tax department in time, with input from the Private Client Partners, as required
Skills Required:
● Tax Qualification - preferably ATT or CTA Qualified but will consider qualified by experience;
● Demonstrable experience in a Tax specific role including experience of advising on all aspects of Income Tax Capital Gains Tax for individuals, trusts and estates;
● Excellent technical skills;
● Commitment to providing excellent level of client service in a time-efficient manner;
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
● Capable of working within the Private Client Department and alongside other departments as required;
● Ability to develop client relationships;
● Highly motivated to develop and expand the tax department
