This UK market leader, located firmly within the FTSE100 Index, boasts revenues of c£30 billion. This retailer has become a household name and currently employs over 160,000 people across 60 different countries.
You will be working closely with the Head of Tax as part of the wider Group Finance team, located in central London. Your focus will be on managing the direct tax affairs of the business, implementing initiatives to minimise tax liability and risks. Main responsibilities include; providing in-house advice, management of corporate tax reporting and compliance, and executing policies in reaction to topical direct tax issues. There are opportunities to work across a broad range of taxes and be part of a very flat working structure.
Role outline:
• Provide general advice in-house on direct tax and tax related matters and develop in-house tax expertise and awareness
• Procure external advice and support as required, managing to the agreed budget spend, or agreeing overspends where there is a tax
cash benefit to do so
• Highlight on a timely basis, direct tax issues emerging from changing legislation and circumstances of the Group
• Implement initiatives and policies, as agreed with the Head of Tax and Direct Tax Manager, with particular reference to:-
- Capital allowances
- Deferred tax
- Share based payments
- R&D claims
- Financing arrangements
- Inter-Group transactions, including transfer pricing arrangements where appropriate
- New business such as JV's and other acquisitions.
• Forecast tax figures, take ownership of all the models and systems used to support each of the figures
• Work closely with colleagues in Group Finance and the external auditors to make sure everything is completed to an agreed timetable
• Prepare UK corporation tax returns for HMRC
• Carry out a wide range of tax reporting. Manage the preparation of tax figures and disclosures for the group and statutory accounts
About you:
• A qualified Chartered Accountant or member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation
• Strong background in UK corporation tax (tax reporting and compliance)
• A strategic, analytical and commercial thinker with an eye for detail
• Track record of planning, executing and delivering results.
