We are looking for a motivated, experienced and qualified tax expert, to join our expanding personal tax and trust team.

The role

The position involves managing a portfolio of personal tax and trust clients, comprising of large family office groups, high net worth individuals and family trusts. The more junior members of the team will report to the manager, and the manager will be responsible for reviewing the work and developing the team, together with the manager peer group. Reporting will be to the group’s senior manager and directly to the partners. The individual will also be required to support the senior manager with the management of the team and processes.

Ongoing training will be provided, including the opportunity to attend the firm’s annual tax conference and to attend both internal and external training sessions.

This is a challenging and interesting role which provides a good range of work, for someone with a solid tax background wishing to build on their experience and help manage a successful and growing personal tax and trust team.

The allocation of work includes: self-assessment tax returns for wealthy individuals, partnership and trusts; associated tax computations including CGT calculations on securities, chattels and property transactions; completion of estate tax returns; and all related and complex aspects of looking after the tax affairs of a variety of high net worth private clients. Specific experience of the following is highly desirable – trusts, partnerships, employment tax, accounts preparation, claims and elections and residence and domicile experience.

The team

A strong team of twelve consisting at all levels from Trainee to Senior Manager.

You

The ideal candidate will have gained relevant experience in a tax role in practice and must be proactive, driven with strong client handling, managerial and project management skills. They must be pragmatic and be able to solve problems creatively as well as have the ability to work calmly under pressure in a friendly environment. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

You should already have had broad exposure to personal tax compliance but desire greater responsibility and an opportunity to demonstrate your flair for organisation by ensuring the smooth operation of a tax department’s compliance process; alternatively, you are running a portfolio of complex personal tax clients successfully but want to widen your technical skills and experience to include advisory projects. We will consider someone with mixed tax experience.

You should also have had experience of effective delegation, reviewing the work of others and mentoring more junior staff to enable them to develop further.

Ideally, the individual should have the ability to identify opportunities on their portfolio clients.

Salary/benefits

A 35-hour working week with flexibility around the core hours of 10am-12pm / 2pm-4pm
Working from home allowance of £25 a month.
Eligibility for the firm’s Profit Sharing Plan that runs from October to September each year. The scheme enables staff to share in the profits of the firm.
Competitive annual salary depending upon experience.
Eligibility for the discretionary bonus scheme.
Twenty-five days annual leave. This increases in line with length of service.
In addition, under the SeleCt flexible benefits programme, employees are entitled to buy or sell up to five days holiday a year, subject to manager approval.
Life assurance cover of three times salary, which you may increase to four x salary under the SeleCt flexible benefit programme.
Contributory pension scheme (The firm will contribute 4% of salary on a matched basis with employee after six months service)
Six-month probationary period.
