Tax Solutions Engineer, Vertex - based in Netherlands or UK or Germany or USA

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide technical expertise for Vertex’s internal and external software applications and products including the design, implementation and maintenance of internal tools and other processes to enhance the productivity of the International tax research team and other related Vertex entities in order to meet particular customer or industry specific needs. The ideal candidate must have a solid technology background paired with a good understanding of International Indirect Tax. Prior experience with RPA’s, bots and other automation tools is an asset. This position is located in Europe (Netherlands or UK) or King of Prussia, PA.


Essential job functions AND responsibilities:

Assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of tools to:
Analyze and identifying the requirements and needs of the Tax Research Department as it relates to tax content.
Collaborate with the members of the Tax Research Department to assist in approaches to taxability findings and help in the awareness of how data should be used by tax professionals so that it can be structured for the various product lines.
Work with Tax Research co-workers to identify pain points and recommend effective solutions.
Create, design and review with customers to ensure tools will meet their needs.
Implement and unit test solutions.
Gather, prioritize and respond to internal and external customers’ defect and enhancement requests on tools.
Evaluate and recommend third-party tools to increase productivity of staff.
Assist in developing requirements for new tax functionality.
Determine how expected tax results or rules impact Vertex products regarding the addition of new content or the maintenance of existing content.
Structure complex tax content within Vertex products in a logical manner that is consistent with system architecture and platforms.
Assist in providing training, troubleshooting and other support for newly implemented and enhanced applications.
Identify future risks regarding content and contribute to the deployment of the mitigation plan for such risks.
Perform and/or monitor end to end testing of transactions from rules creation, through taxability determination and calculations, exports to returns and review of compliance reporting.
Assist in creating and maintaining documentation of the processes for technology connections to research activities and tax data content.


Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Possesses the capability to understand complex tax and case law and apply to software.
Demonstrate a knowledge of the latest areas of new technology and how they could apply to their assigned projects.
Understanding of both the business processes and technical knowledge of the system processing and related business practices
Extensive experience and an in-depth knowledge of our products, information systems, and software development lifecycles
Demonstrated working knowledge of relational database concepts and the related modeling and implementation tools; this requires the ability to understand data modeling and the table structures of Vertex software applications and internal tools.
Ability to collaborate on the design and development of internal applications and/or database systems.
Current knowledge of tax law and policies and how they could apply to our software.
Experience problem-solving complex issues.

Subject Matter Expert (SME in multiple tax fields.
Experience in tax technology solutions, design logic skills.
Understanding how customers would use Vertex products or equivalent product.
Experience working in multi-jurisdictions/ regions.
Experience in project management, estimation skills.
Experience utilizing time management and effectively communicating competing priorities.
Ability to apply broad expertise or knowledge to contribute to development of company objectives and principles to resolve complex issues in creative ways.
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Wide latitude for decision making.
Ability to create formal people networks involving coordination among groups.
Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.
Ability to apply professional concepts, experience and company objectives in order to perform an in-depth analysis of situations or data to resolve complex issues in creative ways.
Must possess good interpersonal organizational, presentation and facilitation skills.
Must be results oriented and customer focused.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
Sufficient knowledge of business communication, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and experience:

B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Accounting/Finance, or related field required.
Requires 15+ years working knowledge of requirements processing, business analysis and modeling concepts, information systems, software development lifecycle, facilitation and influencing abilities.
Experience working with Vertex products or any other tax determination type equivalent tools.
