Senior Director of Tax, EU (Insurance), Crewe, Cheshire

To lead the group's global indirect tax function and the direct tax function throughout Europe. The role involves: optimising compliance and reporting processes; keeping on top of new tax laws and regulations; leading on tax planning strategies for mergers & acquisitions; and implementing the strategic vision of the tax department.

Key Responsibilities
Handling all tax aspects of Brexit and determining the global impact to the business (including the transfer pricing implications)
Advising the business on tax structuring
Reviewing new and existing client deals, to ensure tax compliance, risk management and legal entity efficiency
Lead internal reporting for Global Indirect Tax functions
Reviews the quarterly and year-end tax provisions for Europe (remaining US GAAP compliant)
Prepares SOX supporting documentation
Oversees the preparation of the year-end tax provisions for Europe and tax disclosure notes
Reviews the Solvency II quarterly and annual reporting from a tax perspective
Oversees the preparation and review of corporation tax, VAT, GST, IPT and withholding tax filings
Reviews the implementation, documentation and monitoring of ongoing quality assurance and risk minimization for the tax function in Europe
Manages and directs all tax audits in Europe
Initiates and leads tax planning strategies and initiatives related to direct and indirect taxes in Europe
Leads the due diligence, structuring and tax planning related to any merger and acquisition transactions in Europe
Develops and maintains contacts within the organization, provides tax technical support to other functional areas
Effectively communicates and promotes teamwork within the tax department.

Skills / experience

Degree educated
Operating at a senior level (director)
Experience within the Big 4
Experience within the Insurance/Financial Services/Telecoms sector
Knowledge and understanding of Solvency II
Tax technical expert with global scope
Experience in building key relationships and influencing others
Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
Strong people development and leadership skills
