Your new role
The Tax Adviser will prepare the taxation compliance and advice for companies in the UK in respect of direct taxes to support the E group including responding to HMRC correspondence under the supervision of the Tax Manager.
The role will involve providing a range of direct tax advice and where necessary it will involve coordinating advice from group tax team and / or 3rd party advisers. It includes working with colleagues in both the UK and overseas teams, to ensure both relevant UK and overseas compliance obligations are met and the quarterly tax reporting process for the UK businesses are effectively carried out in accordance with Group policy.
In addition, as part of the team's activities, the adviser will also ensure that the appropriate controls are in place and are monitored to review the level of compliance along the supply chain.
The role requires an understanding of the upstream oil and gas business, related risks, as well as a good working knowledge of the relevant tax issues. The role requires good inter-personal skills to communicate effectively with the businesses, often at short notice, so that tax issues can be translated into commercial terms understood by non-tax professionals.
Key responsibilities as follows:
* Extract information from the accounting system to prepare for corporation tax (CT) and petroleum revenue tax (PRT) returns submission;
* Ensuring CT and PRT deadlines are met and ensure tax returns are in the required format;
* Ensure that all available relief and allowances are obtained for CT and PRT in the most tax efficient manner;
* Preparation and technical input in response to HMRC Indirect Tax queries, and corporate tax self-assessment (CTSA) and PRT;
* Calculation of current tax provision and preparation of tax journals;
* Reconciliation between tax figures according to the applicable Accounting Principles;
* Provide support to other teams within the department as required;
* Provide assistance in respect of corporate.
What you'll need to succeed
Education & Professional Qualifications:
* University degree or equivalent.
* Qualified to at least ATT or equivalent is recommended.
