Graduate Tax Assistant, Magic Circle Law Firm

An International Law Firm are seeking a Tax Assistant to join the team in their London HQ, primarily taking responsibility for assisting the Tax Team with handling Tax and Partnership Tax matters in all global jurisdictions where the firm operates. This position would suit a talented and ambitious graduate with an interest in tax and finance looking to start their career with a globally-recognised, prestigious law firm.

Candidates must be able to start ASAP.

Responsibilities:
• Assisting Tax Advisors with the preparation of UK tax computations, Tax Returns and supporting allocations and other papers for UK entities and responding to HM Revenue & Customs enquiries on submitted computations.
• Preparation of UK Tax Returns for partners located in mainland Europe.
• Preparation of information for global partner tax filings for offices in Europe and US.
• Preparation of quarterly UK Company Tax Payments and twice-yearly UK Partnership Tax Payments.
• Assisting with the producing the complex calculations in excel for the UK partners’ Double Tax Relief claims.
• Preparation of payment orders for global tax payments and updating forecasts of future tax payments for cash-flow forecasting.
• Assist with partner registrations with UK tax authorities for tax and social security purposes; advising third-party advisers of partner appointments and retirements.
• Assisting the Tax Accountant with month end accounting procedures.

What makes a successful candidate?
• Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher (relevant degree e.g. Accounting & Finance preferred, but not essential)
• Excellent communicator, both written and oral
• Self starter
• Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
• Able to work without supervision
• Willingness to take on new work
• Must interact well with all levels within the Firm
• Decisive
• Organised
• Practical, common sense approach
• European languages (desirable)
• Excellent Excel skills to be able to manage existing large workbooks
• Experience in a business environment (through postgraduate positions or work experience while studying)
• Knowledge of SAP (desirable)
• Experience working with VAT and/or Withholding Tax (desirable)
