This established business in East Sussex boasts a strong VAT advisory team that provides consultancy services to an impressive range of blue chip clients.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and technically capable VAT Consultant or Senior Consultant.
With between 3-5 years of VAT consulting experience, probably gained in a large firm or perhaps in house, the role may also suit someone currently doing a mix of VAT compliance and advisory work, but seeking a pure VAT consultancy arrangement.
You will be able to demonstrate good VAT technical knowledge, as well as a familiarity with cross border European VAT issues.
While this is an advisory role, you will have a sound knowledge of EU compliance matters, as part of the job will be to assist the VAT compliance team with technical queries and audits.
Strong communication skills are important, as is the ability to build strong professional relationships with clients and colleagues, mentor juniors, conduct presentations and seminars on occasions.
You will be CTA qualified or able to demonstrate VAT knowledge to an equal standing, and ideally fluent in one European language although this is not essential.
The team regularly undertakes reviews for clients across Europe. In consequence, there may also be a need for international travel on occasions.
An example of the type of projects you will be involved with include:
Single/multiple supply appeal to HMRC – views from counsel being taken, potentially going to Tribunal
Supply chain review and the set up of a shared service centre
TOMS reviews, including discussions with HMRC and ADR meetings
Appeals on the use of MOSS
On-boarding and the review of client’s data to suggest restructuring where appropriate
Health check reviews
Claims for VAT via retrospective registrations
What are the benefits?
A competitive salary that is at the higher end of the spectrum, to attract the best applicants.
The benefits package on offer is also good and includes private health care, a growing holiday allowance for length of company time served, the option of a flexible working arrangement if desired and a performance related bonus too.
Additional selling points include the opportunity to work in a dynamic and expanding team that provides VAT consultancy advice to some of the largest businesses in Europe and beyond.
Unlike the larger accountancy firms, selling and business development is not expected in this role, so may suit a Big 4 or large mid tier VAT adviser, who enjoys the client work and just wants to focus on this aspect.
There is a more informal and relaxed work environment here than typically exists in the bigger firms, but with the same high quality and meaty VAT project work.
Furthermore, the business believes in cultivating and developing staff and invests heavily in ongoing training to this end and this post also offers further career progression opportunities.
