FTSE100 Regional Head of Tax, EMEA (Essex/ London)

The Group Tax function has seventeen members, the majority being based at the EMEA head quarters in Essex. The department’s focus is to; assist the Group in meeting all relevant filing obligations in the jurisdictions in which it operates, reduce potential exposures to tax penalties and interest, co-ordinate and provide tax advice to the business operations, and organise the Group’s affairs tax efficiently.

As the Regional Head of Tax EMEA, you will lead a small team and take responsibility for advising business operations on a wide variety of issues across the Region. Furthermore, you will support the team with UK planning and global projects. These will include; M&A transactions, tax controversy, reorganisations and transfer pricing.

Duties will include:
• Deliver tax advice (direct taxes, indirect taxes and employment taxes) to the business operations within the EMEA region
• Assist with the year end and interim tax reporting process
• Review and monitor tax risks and controls in EMEA
• Assist with cash and reserves repatriation
• Assist with group reorganisations and restructuring
• Assist with tax efficiently funding operations
• Manage the preparation and filing of all tax returns in the region
• Control payment of taxes to ensure that payments are accurate and necessary and to minimize negative cash flow, while meeting due dates and avoiding penalties for underpayment
• Working with staff to improve tax preparation procedures
• Identify opportunities for tax savings and deferrals
• Evaluate tax consequences of new tax laws or changes to existing laws
• Assist with the tax issues pertaining to corporate acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures
• Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders including professional advisors and HMRC
• Assist and manage the tax audit process working with local finance managers
• Manage and mentor two direct reports
• Participate in special projects

About you:
• ICAEW/ICAS qualified
• CTA qualified preferred, but not essential
• UK direct tax background
• Proven international tax track record
• Exposure to corporate tax advisory projects including M&A
• Big 4 training preferred
• Able to discuss tax technical matter in plain language.
