This is a fixed term role reporting to the Head of Tax for an initial period of 4 months with the potential to extend to the end of the tax year and / or to turn into a permanent role. The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead in mitigating and managing employment tax risk in The Corporation of identified by a review of processes and controls carried out by a big-4 firm. The role will include liaising with internal teams (HR, Payroll), providing advice and support to individuals, engaging with advisers and helping to shape what a permanent role should look like for the future. Some internal resource will be available to support the successful candidate.
What Will You Do?
* To lead a review of employment and payroll processes including:
* documenting / reviewing existing policies and the governance framework;
* developing and embedding policies (e.g. on Short-Term Business Visitors, Employment Status in relation to contractors);
* helping to bring together the various strands of employment and payroll work at so that it operates more a one team even though it is spread across several (HR, Payroll, Tax and Council Secretariat).
* To assist the Head of Tax with constructive liaison with HMRC.
* To consider and make recommendations on actions necessary to manage similar risks in offices outside the UK.
What You'll Need
* Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to manage several strands of work to a coherent conclusion.
* Solid and broad grounding in UK employment taxes.
* An awareness of significant EU and non-EU issues.
* Experience of dealing with UK tax authorities.
