Given the continued growth of our practice, we are seeking to hire a Consultant to join our team, based at our office in Dublin. The role will involve a certain degree of travel within Ireland.

This role would suit someone from a science background with strong writing skills who can utilise their scientific knowledge to assist companies with the preparation of the scientific aspects of the R&D tax credit claims.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting the R&D team in providing advice to clients in relation to the eligibility of activities for the R&D tax credit, including attendance to meetings, liaising with clients’ scientific and technical leads, and review of documents.
• Researching and resolving queries both general and client specific in relation to the scientific/technical aspects of the R&D tax credit.
• Gather scientific/technical information from our clients’ R&D teams.
• Drafting scientific/technical reports detailing qualifying R&D projects.
• Planning, organising and executing R&D engagements on time and within budget.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with our clients.

Knowledge of the R&D tax credit scheme and tax/accounting skills would be an asset, but are not a requirement for this application.

KPMG will provide the successful candidate with specialised training on the R&D tax credit scheme.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess most of the following skills/ experience/ qualifications to be considered for this position:

• Third level degree in Agricultural Science, Chemical Science, Biological Science, Food Science or Pharmaceutical Science and other allied sciences. Masters or PhD will be an advantageous asset.
• Demonstrable scientific/technical report writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills, exceptional oral and written communications capabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with our client’s R&D teams.
• Willingness to assume significant responsibility, ownership and accountability.
• Excellent time management skills as well as the ability to work independently and handle multiple client projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to develop an understanding of the basic taxation aspects of R&D tax credit claims (training will be provided).
• Ability to work within a team environment and be self-motivated.
• One or more years of experience in research and development projects in the industry or in academic environment will be an asset.
• One or more years of experience working in the industry is ideal.
