If you are already a Private Client Tax Manager and the path to Senior Manager where you are feels slow or unclear, it is worth understanding how this London practice is set up. It is growing, and people who perform have a genuine route upward through the grades, with Senior Manager the natural next step.
The firm is a major professional services practice whose private client team has more planning work coming in than managers available to lead it. Clients include wealthy individuals, international families and their trustees. They want a Manager who can deliver complex advice now and who sees the grade above Manager as the point of the move, not a distant possibility.
Day to day
Most of your calendar, roughly three-quarters, is advisory. You will handle residence and domicile, offshore trust planning, multi-generational succession, and the cross-border points that follow when clients and their assets are not confined to the UK. Leading engagements, briefing clients and co-advisers, developing juniors, and growing existing relationships all sit in the role.
What you will need
Manager-level private client experience with technically demanding, often international, cases. Sound UK private client tax knowledge for internationally connected individuals and trusts. Evidence of leading advisory work and looking after client relationships. Ease with coaching junior colleagues. Ideally CTA, ACA, a law qualification, former HMRC inspector training or equivalent. Where inheritance tax has been a thinner part of your mix, the team can deepen it.
Package and next step
£75,000 to £85,000 base plus bonus and benefits. Hybrid in London: three office days and two from home. Growth in the practice underpins the route from Manager toward Senior Manager for those who deliver. An exploratory chat can come before any formal process, and hiring can proceed promptly when both sides agree to go further.
