Employment Tax Manager
Reading, Berkshire
Highly Competitive Package

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Employment Tax Manager or Assistant Manager to join a progressive and growing accountancy and business advisory firm.

The role would suit an ambitious tax professional who enjoys working closely with clients and is keen to broaden their technical expertise while progressing their career within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Ideally ATT and/or CTA qualified, you will bring a strong understanding of employment taxation, a practical commercial approach and a genuine interest in developing both client relationships and your own professional capabilities.
The Role

Working across a varied client base, you will provide specialist employment tax support on both day-to-day matters and more complex advisory projects. The position offers considerable variety, encompassing compliance, consultancy, transaction support, employee incentives and wider employment-related tax planning.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the wider team, while playing an active role in identifying and converting new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of a portfolio of clients, developing trusted relationships and becoming a valued point of contact for employment tax matters.

Provide practical, commercially focused advice across the full spectrum of UK employment taxes, including PAYE, National Insurance and benefits in kind.

Manage and advise on employment tax compliance requirements, including P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements and associated reporting obligations.

Advise employers on areas such as salary sacrifice arrangements, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), IR35 and employment status assessments.

Support clients with international employment tax matters where required, drawing on relevant cross-border experience.

Assist with tax due diligence exercises, assessing employment tax exposures and identifying potential issues within target businesses and corporate groups.

Advise on employee incentive arrangements, including share option schemes and EMI, working alongside relevant legal advisers where necessary.

Support the design and implementation of growth share arrangements, ensuring the associated tax considerations are appropriately addressed.

Undertake tax valuations relating to share options and growth share structures.

Advise on Employment Related Securities (ERS) matters and associated HMRC reporting requirements.

Keep abreast of legislative developments and emerging employment tax issues, ensuring advice remains technically accurate and commercially relevant.

Contribute to internal technical development through training sessions, knowledge sharing, coaching and mentoring of junior colleagues.

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider tax and advisory teams to deliver joined-up solutions for clients.

Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and generate additional work, with a particular focus on opportunities arising from the firm's established client base.

Support the firm's continued growth by contributing to business development initiatives and strengthening its employment tax offering.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will combine sound technical knowledge with strong interpersonal and commercial skills.

Ideally, you will have:

A relevant professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, ATT or CTA, with demonstrable experience in employment taxation.

Strong technical knowledge across UK employment tax, with the ability to apply legislation to practical client situations.

Experience working with a varied portfolio of businesses and sectors.

Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with clients, colleagues and senior stakeholders.

A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider tax and advisory team.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering consistently high-quality work.

A proactive and commercially aware mindset, with the confidence to identify opportunities and contribute to business development.

A genuine interest in continuing to develop technically and professionally, while supporting the development of those around you.
