Group Head of Tax & Treasury interim tax job requires an interim Head of Tax for this interim Head of Tax job which has some treasury duties.
An opportunity for an experienced tax professional to work in a standalone role with full responsibility for managing all group tax affairs across compliance, governance, and strategy. The position is the organisation's in‑house tax expert, partnering closely with senior leadership and supporting the business through divestment activity.
Treasury includes a smaller but important element with focus on bank reporting and covenant management. While prior treasury experience is beneficial, it is not essential for Tax Professionals who are keen to learn.
Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this role can be worked on a 4 days per week or full time basis and involves 1 day per week in the Reading office.
Key responsibilities will involve:

Manage the Group's effective tax rate, identifying and implementing tax planning opportunities to reduce corporate tax exposure, minimise indirect taxes, and mitigate risk.

Act as the primary point of contact for HMRC, overseeing Business Risk Reviews, enquiries, and ongoing relationship management.

Ensure full compliance across all relevant tax areas, including SAO, CCO, corporation tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, and employment taxes.

Prepare statutory accounts tax disclosures.

Oversee and review UK VAT compliance and advisory work, including partial exemption calculations.

Lead IR35 compliance processes in partnership with HR and external advisers.
*
Provide day‑to‑day tax advice and business partnering support to Group and business units.
*
Support on cash management and covenant monitoring.
To be considered for this role you will be available to start in early April and commit to the 12 months duration. Senior level in-house tax experience is imperative and to have experience across the breadth of taxes - direct and indirect tax and employment taxes; to be comfortable at a hands on review level through to providing tax advice.
This is a highly visible role with ownership and influence on the tax affairs for the business.
