About the Role

Alexander Lloyd are delighted to be partnering a well-known wellbeing Charity who are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Tax Manager to take ownership of all tax and VAT compliance and advisory matters across the organisation. This pivotal role ensures the business operates within all relevant regulations while providing strategic insight to both operational teams and central functions. As the go-to expert on VAT, corporation tax, and employment status, you will play a critical role in minimising tax risk, supporting business growth, and enabling efficient financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

● Compliance & Reporting
● Review and submit quarterly VAT returns, corporation tax computations, and annual PAYE Settlement Agreements.
● Ensure accurate VAT application across all transactions, including validation of supplier VAT numbers, VAT recovery, use of charitable reliefs, and exemption certificates.
● Complete and oversee corporation tax returns, including Country-by-Country reporting, Corporate Interest Restriction, Pillar 2 requirements, and Irish VAT/corporation tax submissions with external advisers.
● Advisory & Business Support
● Provide expert tax guidance on new service lines, projects, acquisitions, and disposals.
● Advise on VAT/tax implications of ERP and software changes to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
● Conduct regular reviews of billing and ERP systems to ensure correct VAT treatment.
● Governance & Risk Management
● Maintain tax risk records within risk control software..
● Review and update the group tax strategy annually for board approval and publication.
● Prepare board papers on tax matters and act as primary contact for HMRC and external tax/legal advisers.
● Deliver VAT training across the organisation to strengthen compliance and awareness.

Candidate Profile

● A qualified tax professional (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with 3+ years post-qualification experience in a senior tax role.
● Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT, corporation tax, and employment status legislation.
● Experience with charitable reliefs, complex VAT scenarios, and international tax matters.
● Proven track record of advising on strategic business initiatives and managing tax risk.
● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to non-specialists.

A proactive, detail-oriented approach and the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Candidates with Charity VAT experience would be of strong interest, we are also considering candidates looking to make a move from practice into industry for this role.
