Role & Responsibilities

The role will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day tax affairs of a £2 billion project, which is the largest project the group has delivered in its 35-year history and is one of the largest and most complex property developments ever undertaken. This is a key role within the finance team and will require the individual to take ownership and accountability for a wide range of tax matters for the project and evolve them to the next level. The role will require the individual to deal with complex structures and transactions and be able to think from first principles and challenge the status quo when required. Strong technical tax skills combined with commercial judgement are required for this key role combined with an ability to operate at all levels from strategic to granular and deal with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities will encompass but not be limited to the following areas:

Assisting the tax team with the planning and structuring of real estate transactions and managing ad-hoc tax issues, including:

* Advising on acquisition, holding and exit implications of real estate projects, with specific consideration of taxes on income and gains, VAT and transfer taxes;
* Tax review of financial models;
* Assisting on bids for new projects;
* Preparation of tax sections of investment proposals;
* Working with advisers to prepare detailed tax structure memos;
* Managing tax due diligence processes, including analysis of identified risks, negotiating warranties and indemnities, tax review of legal agreements (including sales and purchase agreements, loan agreements);
* Cash repatriation planning;
* Dealing with HMRC enquiries where relevant;
* Significant projects including capital allowances and refinancing.

Tax compliance coordination and management

* Managing compliance and ensuring adequate information flow between internal and external resources for complicated structures;
* Oversight of compliance for all entities;
* Providing input as required on key risk items;
* Assisting with tax audits and statutory reporting as required;
* Reporting to and working with investors;
* A good working knowledge of Income Taxes, Corporate Taxes, VAT, SDLT, CIS, Non-resident Landlord Taxes and partnership taxation.

Understanding and practical application of relevant tax provisions and practical guidance to complex compliance and reporting requirements.

Assistance with various aspects of the reviewing and understanding the impact of transfer pricing, anti-hybrid rules, interest deduction restrictions, including:

* coordinating with advisers to advise on financing arrangements and real estate and management services;
* coordination with finance and project teams to ensure documentation and implementation requirements are met

Such other duties as the Partnership may reasonably require from time to time, and as may be notified to you.

Key Relationships

* The role will report to the Head of Tax.
* Regular interaction will be required with the finance team and the project teams.
* Key external relationships include those with tax advisers, auditors and current and prospective investment partners.

Role & Person Specification

Qualifications

* ACA/CTA or equivalent.
* Minimum 2 years' PQE tax experience in real estate taxation.
* Strong tax technical skills.
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong project management skills.
* Self-motivated, committed and goal-oriented.
* Ability to operate in a deal-driven environment and to juggle multiple projects effectively.
* Ability to work well within a team.

Experience & Skills

* Experience must be commensurate with the role level and knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements should have been gained through training and working in a professional services environment.

* Must have excellent coordination and project management skills to understand and manage an appropriate information and reporting flow between the business and different sets of advisers.

* Must demonstrate an understanding of and sympathy with the commercial issues in the business and the impact of tax issues thereon and a willingness to learn about the commercial and tax issues affecting the real estate market.

* Able to work effectively to objectives with the personal sensitivity to be able to understand the needs of the business and offer clear authoritative answers in a timely manner.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare commercial standard business correspondence, reports, documents, as well as to present to diverse small or large audiences.

* Ability to critically review data and investigate and explain unexpected outcomes.

* Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workload, achieve deadline driven defined outcomes and display good judgment under pressure.

* A positive team player, skilled at working collaboratively with team members, key business leaders and external partners and HMRC, to drive results and support the wider team and business objectives.

* Should be able to evidence an ability to adapt style to engage, support and coach colleagues.

* Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment, characterised by change and rapid growth.
