VAT Compliance Manager - scope for remote working

Job Summary

Working in the business tax department reporting to the Director for Global Indirect Taxes (VAT Director), the post holder will be responsible for providing comprehensive VAT and where necessary other indirect tax advice and guidance to the agencies.

The person would need to be experienced in working with VAT accounting systems and extrapolating data for the preparation of VAT returns. The person should also have good interpersonal skills in order to be able to communicate effectively with agency finance teams and HMRC as necessary. Two to three years' experience of extensive work with SAP or equivalent ERP is ideal. Experience of using Alteryx is not essential as training will be provided to run reports. There is scope for remote working with some time to be spent at agency premises to build rapport with finance teams and develop internal profile.

Key Accountabilities

* Responsible for the complete, accurate and timely preparation and submission of VAT returns together with supporting analysis for management review using established Alteryx workflows.
* Process maintenance and continuous improvements, including aligning processes to developing digital reporting requirements and making enhancements to the existing Alteryx workflow.
* Operation and evidence of controls over VAT reporting processes.
* Following up on Alteryx generated exception reports with agency finance teams to resolve errors before VAT returns are filed.
* Work with agency finance teams to identify, prepare and review indirect tax disclosures prior to submission.
* Assess risks and document, monitor and communicate to senior VAT leadership and agency finance leads.
* Support senior VAT leadership with tax compliance automation projects across the UK and the EU.
* Support senior VAT leadership with the migration to S/4 Hana - testing, providing input into decision making.
* The person should actively participate in agency meetings, workshops, and tax training sessions.
* The person will be committed to CPD, continually developing and increasing knowledge and skills to give the best possible service and advice to agency finance and tax team.
* The person will assist with the submission of any new VAT registration or VAT de registration applications including Option to Tax notifications when applicable.
* The person will monitor compliance with Making Tax Digital, HMRC`s compliance requirements, and providing internal support for VAT queries from finance staff.
* Assist with process reviews required to enable Senior Accounting Officer ("SAO") annual certification.

Qualifications/ Experience:

* Professional Accountancy or Tax qualification (ACA, ACCA, CTA etc)
* Strong Excel and financial systems skills (e.g. SAP, Hyperion).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience of working in a complex environment, delivering to deadlines.
* Ability to research and resolve complex accounting or taxation issues.
* Experience of Alteryx desired but not essential.
