VP/Director Front Office Tax - London - Global Bank

Due to an increase in business activity the Front Office Tax function require an additional head based in London. The role would suit a qualified Tax Lawyer, M&A Banking specialist in the Big 4 or someone who is currently in a Front Office function in a similar Bank.

Key Accountabilities

* Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of structured transactions and how these and a structuring team interact with other teams/departments and strategies to achieve sustainable returns for the firm
* Demonstrates good understanding of technical tax, accounting and regulatory matters and able to apply this knowledge to the transaction execution process
* Interpret, and take responsibility for short term as well as long term transactions management and maintain responsible risk management facility
* Understands the factors that influence the risk positions and able to communicate these to senior team members

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

* Strong understanding of processes and the ability to effectively manage and responsibly delegate activity to junior members of the team.
* Utilises cross-firm network and authoritative understanding to create strong relationships with other teams.
* Draft materials and makes presentations for senior members of team and Tax to aid decision making
* Liaise with infrastructure functions on pipeline transactions and key initiatives
* Take on responsibility for mentoring junior members of the desk, sharing the technical knowledge required to progress in the team, and providing a sounding board for any issues and concerns they may have
* Be a role model for junior team members

Decision-making and Problem Solving

* Provide support to transaction lead, but also able to lead calls/meetings with clients and advisors when required
* Experienced with executing in complex and challenging conditions, to ensure thorough coverage of various areas (tax, accounting, modelling, regulatory requirements).
* Able to negotiate investment opportunities with counter-parties and provide support in understanding the legal impact of finalised documents ahead of execution.
* Has authority to make a number of business decisions for own area in order to contribute directly to projects. Provides guidance and direction to other colleagues as part of this process

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Policies and Policy Standards.

Person Specification

* Develop and maintain operational relationships with internal stakeholders related to executed transactions.
* Build working relationships with structuring teams in US, JGI and Luxembourg for the execution of transactions
* Is experienced and confident in interactions with departments within the Bank.
* Able to draw on strong negotiation skills in complex situations; seen as a go-to person for the team.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

* Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
* Experience working in a transactional, structured finance team, within an investment bank, law firm or similar organization

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's or graduate degree and/or CFA / ACA/ ACCA or equivalent accreditation or experience
* Tax technical skills (specific to local jurisdiction) strongly preferred
* Accounting proficiency
* Experience managing / reviewing legal documentation process
* Experience negotiating with third parties preferred
* Knowledge of UK tax law
* Execution experience across fixed income products, proven ability to execute through challenging conditions
* Consistently contributes to discussions on technical matters (tax, accounting, regulatory, etc).
* Ability to lead groups under high pressure and fluid situations
* Capability to solve problems logically with the creative use of available resources
* Time management and capability to work independently on a number of priorities, capability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
* Good understanding of Investment Banking businesses and activities
* Financial modelling and analysis skills
* Strong quantitative / numeracy skill set
* An analytical mindset coupled with the inclination to run and improve a rigorous process
* Self starter and team player, with a proven ability to interact at a wide range of levels in- and outside their own team
* Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
