Financial Controller

The financial controller is responsible for the day to day accounting operations. He/she will be responsible for producing periodic financial reports, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to mitigate risks and enhancing the accuracy of the financial reporting process to ensure that the financial information complies with IFRS or FRS 101. The principal responsibilities include:

Ensuring the financial management system accurately reflects a true and fair financial position;
Ensuring all ledgers are controlled and maintained to the highest standard, including but not limited to reviewing payroll records and all payments;
Reviewing inter-company invoices and reconciliations, as well as maintaining and improving current systems and controls;
Reviewing monthly management accounts in line with Group accounting policies for presentation to the Executives and shareholders;
Producing IFRS or FRS 101 compliant financial statements (including the annual statutory accounts) in line with the timetables set out by Corporate and the Shareholders' Agreement;
Leading the annual external audit process;
Preparing ad hoc financial performance reports;
Liaising with the company tax advisers to prepare tax files and dealing with quarterly and annual tax returns and another tax related matters;
Establishing and maintaining the company's internal control system to ensure the internal control environment covers the entire UK operations in accounting, finance and management fields.
Managing the company's monthly and annual budgeting process and setting up an advanced warning system to avoid budget overruns, including producing cost analysis as required;
Producing cash flow forecasts according to business requirements; and
Supporting and working closely with other financial management functions including financial planning and reporting, financial analysis, and financial risk management
Developing and training of other staff members in the finance team;
Working with the finance manager in the team and ensuring timely and accurate reporting for group reporting purposes;
Communicating with NNB management team – i.e. maintain open and clear lines of communication with all relevant stakeholders including joint venture partners

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with 5+ years post-qualification experience
Proven experience of managing large projects in the nuclear power, energy or other related industries
Strong knowledge of both International Financial Reporting Standards and FRS 101
Experience of leading a finance team
Excellent understanding of the principal UK energy markets and their associated infrastructure/asset base

Technical and Commercial Knowledge and Skills:

Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in accounting and financial management
Strong commercial knowledge of complex business operations and financial drivers
Self-starter with a commitment to continuous improvement
Strong relationship-building, influencing, people management skills
Good communication and presentation skills
Ability to thrive in a changing market and organisational environment
