This FTSE100 business with an instantly recognisable brand has gone through a highly successful and well publicised transformation in recent years. With on-going changes and continued growth expected, a need has arisen to hire a forward thinking VAT Manager to join an already very forward thinking team in London.
This is a new exciting and challenging role. The role is vital to ensuring compliance and minimising VAT costs for the Group and will provide a great opportunity to work in a diverse FTSE 100 business.
About the role
As VAT manager you will assist in the management of indirect tax within the Group, including relationships with tax authorities, advisers and colleagues throughout the business – becoming a recognised expert source of knowledge on a range of indirect tax issues. The focus is primarily on VAT but encompasses other indirect taxes.
Responsible for providing technical support and advice to colleagues on a variety of projects (including IT systems) to ensure compliance, minimise tax costs and maximise tax opportunities, you will assist senior managers and provide advice to the business on all areas of VAT compliance and planning.
Your role will involve reviewing Group VAT returns, and assisting with the group partial exemption special method calculations - gathering relevant information from across the Group. You’ll determine the VAT treatment of new products and income streams and ensure they are treated correctly within financial accounting systems.
Providing training and guidance to staff at various levels, you’ll support colleagues in design of products and/or negotiations with HMRC, external customers and suppliers. You will of course be expected to keep abreast of developments in tax legislation and case law.
Ongoing legal developments and potential regulatory changes, as well as new initiatives and acquisitions, provide a great opportunity for the new recruit to quickly become a specialist in this unique area of VAT and offer the chance to be involved in some huge challenges.
About You
With strong technical VAT capability, you’ll be from a practice, HMRC, or in-house background, and be highly numerate. Although a good and flexible team player, you will have experience of working independently and will thrive on developing your own role and workload.
With excellent communications skills, and the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels, you’ll be capable of driving change across process, systems and people alongside effectively contributing to negotiations with tax authorities.. Experience in MS Office suite is required and SAP is preferable.
