This is a global, market leading multinational company with instantly recognisable brands looking to bring in a Regional Tax Manager willing to cover a mix of direct tax and indirect taxes across a range of countries in Northern Europe. The role can be based remotely from anywhere in Germany or Austria and will look after a range of countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
The role reports to the Head of Tax Europe who is based in the Netherlands with extensive experience in this industry sector. The role interacts regularly with the SMEs for Tax Reporting, Transfer Pricing, Tax Planning, etc.
The role needs a tax generalist with advisory skills, someone to be the point of contact for internal stakeholders (the business) as well as being the point of contact for external stakeholders (the tax authorities).
This role could be suitable for either someone from an indirect tax or a corporate tax background – the key skills are less technical and more about communication skills and attitude. On a day to day basis the role deals with indirect taxes more often than direct taxes. The indirect tax issues come from the business, with supply chain, contract reviews and WHT popping up frequently. On the corporate tax side, there is tax reporting, transfer pricing and discussion with the tax authorities.
The role requires strong communication skills in English and German. Around 8 years of tax experience in either corporate tax or indirect taxes and a willingness to take on new challenges is required. Everything else can be learned.
