Senior Tax Analyst, Vertex, Amsterdam or London

JOB SUMMARY:
The Tax Analyst IV will serve as an indirect tax subject matter expert and will perform advanced VAT/GST indirect tax research and analysis to ensure the accurate taxation of product and service offerings for new content. Will also assist in advising the Vertex enterprise on VAT/GST indirect tax matters and developing effective tax strategies.

Essential job functions AND responsibilities:

Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and communicate and coordinate with internal and external groups to ensure compliance with change.
Analyze problems, identify core issues, investigate, evaluate and integrate information.
Provide leadership to Tax Research and other Vertex teams by working closely with peers in the Research Management Team to develop and implement cohesive plans to increase Vertex's capacity and capability pertaining to Vertex's tax needs.
Analyze, gather, and interpret tax laws, regulations, ordinances, case law, and literature. Create and/or review requirements and specifications.
Draft memorandums and letter rulings; communicate deliverables to team.
Enhance job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Support a dynamic team environment by collaborating with other departments, contributing time, effort and ideas.
Establish effective processes and best practices for knowledge sharing and communication.
Guide overall team activity to support team/business objectives.
Clarify how change will help the organization meet business goals and articulate benefits of change.
Make recommendations regarding appropriate staff levels and skills in order to achieve goals and objectives.
Lead or participate in other projects or duties relating to new content initiatives and/or strategies as needed.
Occasional travel may be required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of VAT/GST Indirect Tax rules and regulations that impact tax calculation and compliance; demonstrate expertise in determining accurate taxability decision with appropriate legal support.
Ability to handle complex tax content projects in a multi-tasking environment, define project plans, perform research, meet strict content deadlines and budgets, interact and communicate with individuals/groups at all levels within the organization.
Strong analytical skills and extensive cross country technical VAT/GST Indirect Tax experience.
Demonstrated ability to translate and communicate complex or difficult tax concepts to others in a plain and understandable manner.
Experience in tax consulting, compliance, audit defense and controversy a plus.
High level of proficiency with web-based tax research platforms.
Demonstrated ability to establish strong, credible, cross-functional working relationships in a fast-paced, collaborative corporate culture.
High level of ethics, integrity, judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
Ability to interpret tax laws and regulations and determine how they apply to Vertex products.
Strong aptitude to detailed information.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Effectively work in multi-jurisdictions/regions.
Understands product development methodologies.
Exposure to broad spectrum of taxes and jurisdictions a plus.
Ability to coach, mentor, teach, develop and train staff.
Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation and facilitation) skills.
Must be results oriented, customer focused and able to manage multiple high-visibility or high-impact projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages is required.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING:

Bachelor’s Degree in Tax/Accounting/Finance is required.
Obtained or actively pursuing one or more of the following: Juris Doctorate (J.D.), master’s in taxation, MBA, CMI or CPA certification (active or inactive) preferred.
6+ years of Indirect Tax experience required.
Experience with Vertex or other tax engines a plus.
