Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a leading and growing Legal Firm to recruit for a dynamic and experienced Tax & Trust Manager for their Cheltenham Office. An organisation that works with clients in the UK and throughout the world, with multiple offices across UK, Europe, the Middles East and Asia. Due to expansion and a committed objective to build a Centre of Excellence for Trust and Probate Work within Cheltenham, this newly created role will support the management of an impressive caseload of UK Trust clients and some private wealth clients. You will ensure not only that all compliance processes are achieved, but also that their client's matters are actively managed to offer tax mitigation and other value-added services.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve managing your own caseloads, client relationships and engaging with all those that may be involved with any given matter, including trustees, beneficiaries and other advisers. You will pro-actively manage your clients to ensure any tax-planning and/or succession planning issues are considered, oversee and contribute towards the timely preparation of trust accounts and tax returns. You will calculate trustees' liabilities to IHT, CGT and Income Tax, making use of annual exemptions. Prepare for and attend trustees' meetings, deal with distributions from trusts, both capital and discretionary income distributions along with activate investment reviews, and monitor the performance of investment portfolios. You will review and interpret trust deeds and related documentation with the input from the wider team and oversee/manage the Trust/Tax Assistant.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this newly created and exciting opportunity you will need experience within a similar role, ideally you will be STEP qualified with excellent knowledge of Trust Law. You will need experience of understanding Trust Accounts and a good understanding of taxation, to include calculation of trustees' liability to IHT, CGT and Income Tax, and interaction with personal taxes. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to develop and maintain client relationships amongst a diverse group of clients. You will need to be highly computer literate and have experience working with computerised accounts software and strong management ability including mentoring and training.
