Group Tax Manager, Prestigious Brand

This historic and globally recognised branded retailer, has operations in two continents and customers all over the world. With a global HQ in the heart of London, this role has been newly created as part of a review of the Group Finance function. Reporting directly into the Head of Tax and Financial Reporting, the culture is dynamic and fast-paced.


As Group Tax Manager you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing the Group’s tax strategy. With responsibility for outsourced tax compliance, tax planning projects and overview of tax reporting, you will enjoy a varied role. Other duties will include review of VAT, and co-ordinating advice on employment taxes and transfer pricing.


Duties and responsibilities:
• Direct areas of tax responsibilities include Corporation Tax and VAT, while oversight responsibilities relate primarily to Stamp Duty, Customs Duty and Employment Taxes.
• Building strong relationships with tax authorities, external tax advisers and auditors
• Working with stakeholders to provide timely and appropriate advice on commercial and operational matters


Advisory and project work:
• Project work including implementation of group structure reorganisations and liquidation of dormant companies
• Recognising tax risks and opportunities and bringing them to the attention of the Group Head of Tax and Financial reporting
• Advising upon tax efficient strategies for funding group companies and repatriating cash
• Working with advisers and maximising their value to the group


Tax reporting, compliance and risk management:
• Review of UK corporate tax returns and preparation of supporting materials
• Working with the finance team and local advisers to ensure corporate tax returns in overseas territories are filed
• Review of the quarterly UK VAT return prepared by a third party
• Responsibility for advising the Senior Accounting Officers of the Group’s UK tax
• Engaging advisers where appropriate to obtain ad hoc employment tax advice


About you:

• Qualified accountant (CA/ACA), and, or, Institute of Tax with 5-10 years relevant PQE
• Comprehensive knowledge of UK tax matters and a knowledge or an awareness of key international and transactional tax matters
• Good technical understanding of tax strategy and governance
• Ability to discuss tax technical matters in plain language
