As a tax manager, you’ll be the main point of contact for your clients – there to advise, assist and update them at every stage of their claim journey. You’ll need to totally understand the businesses you’re dealing with, so you’ll do in-depth interviews to uncover as much insight as possible. Sometimes that’ll mean technical research, sometimes it won’t, but it’ll always mean understanding the wider impact of the advice you give – both on your clients’ businesses and on the industry.

To be a great tax manager here, it’s fair to say you’ll need a brilliant knowledge of tax. But although you’ll need to be a chartered tax or accountancy professional (CTA or ACA qualified), you won’t need to know all the specifics of R&D already – that’s something they can teach you with their brilliant training package.

Most importantly, you’ll be the kind of person who’s eager to take responsibility for their own work and who doesn’t rest until their client has the best possible solution. As well as a solid communicator, you’ll be driven, enthusiastic and thrive under pressure.
