US Tax Director, The Stars Group, Miami

Job Purpose

The US Tax Director will take responsibility for the key US tax issues affecting the Group’s US business, [and be the main contract for Canadian tax], working closely with the Group Tax Director, Group management, and business teams.  The US is a key strategic market and this is a new role created to lead the corporate and operational tax issues impacting the Group’s planned rapid growth across the US.

Key Responsibilities

Analyse US and connected international tax issues affecting all aspects of the Group’s business, including leading the development of efficient structuring of the Groups operations in the US, monitoring developments in the US and connected tax laws and driving implementation of solutions. Typical areas are:

• Ensuring commercial relationships are entered into considering all tax implications and mitigating tax costs and risks (including casino/commercial partnerships and M&A transactions)
• Liaising with Gaming Regulators to ensure the correct tax treatment of our gaming products.
• Reviewing the Group’s product and marketing innovation plans to ensure that correct tax treatment for players’, withholding tax, W2G and 1099-Misc forms and work with local partners and advisors to agree the position.
• Ensuring compliance with the Group’s transfer pricing policy and supporting the Group’s Transfer Pricing Senior Manager in preparing annual documentation for the Group’s US entities.

Lead the Group’s US [and Canadian tax compliance process], in line with SOX controls processes, with support from external advisors, ensuring all federal, state and local income tax filings are accurately filed on time.

Be the primary point of contact for Canadian tax issues, liaising with external advisors where necessary.

Assist the Group Tax Director with the Group’s worldwide GAAP reporting of income tax information and financial statement disclosures for the applicable reporting structures

Help in mitigating the Group’s tax risks by preparing guidance and recommendations to Group management and/or business teams.

Establish a strong profile within the Group, and be a key contact point for various business teams, to help them deal with their tax related issues and queries.

Lead the Groups response to all US [and Canadian tax audits], with support from advisors and the wider Group tax team.

Skills and Capabilities

Essential:

• At least 8 years of US and international tax experience, a combination of industry and public accounting experience preferred.
• Active CPA, MST or LLM
• Good exposure to/understanding of indirect tax issues
• Able to provide commercial, practical and implementable tax advice in a clear and concise manner
• Well organised, able to manage competing issues in an ever-changing environment.
• Confident, with good communication skills, and able to readily gain the confidence of the business teams and Group management

Desirable:

Awareness and interest in the gambling/i-gaming industry.
Canadian tax exposure, in particular in relation to FAPI rules.
