Your new role
The Head of Indirect Tax is now looking to recruit an experienced VAT Manager to assist the VAT Senior Managers in Business Partnering by providing a comprehensive and proactive VAT advisory, assurance and planning service to support specific areas of the business.
You will work with the VAT risk, assurance and compliance and business finance teams to develop processes whereby the Group fulfils its statutory compliance obligations in respect of VAT and IPT, as well as assisting in managing the relationship with HMRC.
You'll play a key role in providing accurate and prompt advice on the VAT consequences of proposed transactions for specific business areas and work with stakeholders regarding new initiatives to identify opportunities and risks, ensuring that the impact of VAT is reflected in the decision making process.
This individual will monitor changes in VAT legislation and interpretation to identify potential impact on the business and take appropriate action so that the Group complies with and obtains the maximum advantage from such changes.
You will provide technical updates and training to both technical and non-technical staff throughout the organisation to maximise VAT and IPT awareness and reduce compliance risk as well as supporting Senior VAT Managers in analysing the VAT or IPT impact of new business products and the viability of planning opportunities.
You'll need to have a strong and detailed knowledge of UK law and practice is respect of VAT and a good understanding of the workings of HMRC. In addition, knowledge of EC law and its effects on its operation within EC Member States would be an advantage.
What you'll need to succeed
You will likely be either ACA / CTA or AIIT qualified with a background in VAT. This could be gained either from a professional services environment or from time spent working in-house. In an ideal world you will have financial services experience but this is not essential. The appetite to get stuck in, build relationship and develop your career within the organisation is of utmost importance. Demonstrable capability of VAT issues is essential.
