The IBFD Knowledge Centre is home to most of the tax specialists within IBFD. It is a publications and research department with staff engaged in updating and reviewing IBFD’s publications, conducting research in international tax, and lecturing on various tax topics. The Knowledge Centre is comprised of several Knowledge Groups focused either on particular geographic regions or on specialist international tax topics. The research staff of the Knowledge Centre is drawn from all over the world, mainly having expertise in the tax systems of various countries, as well as specialisation in key areas of taxation.

Currently we have a challenging position for a:

VAT/GST Specialist

The Value Added Tax department is a unit within the Knowledge Centre. The Value Added Tax department is home to IBFD’s specialists in the field of VAT. The department is responsible for delivering on IBFD’s VAT business objectives, including the preparation and review of VAT/GST publications, delivery of lectures, and government consultancy services in the area of indirect tax. Included in the VAT department’s portfolio are IBFD’s flagship publications on VAT: the International VAT Monitor and the VAT Compass.

The VAT/GST Specialist will be responsible for the timely and accurate managing and editing of a selection of VAT/GST publications. He/she will also help developing policies to maintain and ensure a unified and seamless technical and editorial process with respect to the VAT/GST publications. In this role, he/she will work closely with other team members specialized in VAT/GST, but also with Managers and staff of the various Knowledge Groups within the IBFD Knowledge Centre, as well as the Production Coordination Department.

Working closely with the Publishing and Marketing departments, the VAT/GST Specialist will develop new content in the area of indirect tax. He/she will also play a significant networking role between IBFD and external stakeholders, i.e. clients, and international organisations with which IBFD collaborates. He/she will be expected to build on IBFD’s strong network in the field of VAT/GST.

He/she will report to the Manager of the Value Added Tax, Knowledge Group.

Main responsibilities
Tasks and responsibilities include the following:
- Revision and technical editing of the VAT/GST publications;
- Assist with other VAT publications on an ad hoc basis and answer questions about the content;
- Responsible for new product development in the area of VAT/GST;
- Relationship-building and relationship management (for authors, correspondents, and allied organisations).

Other activities may include:
- Participate in comparative research on cross border taxation;
- Write reports on VAT developments/case law;
- Participate in academic activities, e.g. lecture at universities;
- Provide tailored research reports to our clients.

Requirements
- University degree in law, accounting, economics or other relevant area (a relevant post-graduate qualification – vocational or academic – is a distinct advantage);
- At least 4 years technical and practical expertise in the field of VAT/GST of one or more jurisdictions. Candidates with knowledge of VAT/GST systems from non-EU countries, are specifically encouraged to apply;
- Familiarity with Customs;
- Excellent writing and editing skills;
- Teaching experience is an asset;
- Excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail;
- Native (or equivalent) command of the English language (knowledge of other languages will be an advantage).

Salary & fringe benefits
Depending on background and relevant work experience, we offer a salary between EUR 4,000 and 5,000 gross per month (37 hrs), completed by an attractive package of fringe benefits, amongst others:
