As the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is responsible for collecting the money needed to support the UK’s public services. Offering access to a wide range of high-profile and complex cases, this exceptional responsibility results in a dynamic atmosphere in which our teams work collaboratively to ensure a level playing field across the tax system. Our Large Business teams are constantly developing high-profile projects to close the tax gap, and it is precisely these types of projects that you could be leading when you join us as a Grade 6 Transfer Pricing Economist.

Working on cases worth a minimum of £10 million, you will utilise your transfer pricing expertise within HMRC’s Large Business directorate to solve complex transfer pricing issues. You will be expected to develop and lead on innovative solutions using economic and financial concepts such as modelling, game theory and data analysis in high-profile and challenging cases, and to apply commercial experience and knowledge to perform value chain analysis and to analyse value drivers and key economic risks in business.

You will enjoy a varied work load, working across different sectors and industries, both financial and non-financial and a significant degree of autonomy while dealing with multinational corporations who try to divert profits away from the UK. You will work with a variety of highly skilled professionals such as international tax and CT specialists to investigate transfer pricing issues and bring cases to swift resolution. Your outstanding verbal and written communication skills will prove crucial when running training workshops to share knowledge at events across the UK and when developing junior members of a team.

To succeed in this exciting role you will have considerable experience working in a senior transfer pricing post. With good commercial awareness and the ability to apply economic theories and principles to transfer pricing, your extensive experience in the field will be supported by a degree in Economics (Masters or PhD preferred). There will also be an expectation of occasionally working away from home.

Combining a high level of career satisfaction by offering a variety of challenging and exciting work, with a good work/life balance, HMRC is a natural career step for those who are proactive, ambitious and keen to take responsibility for large-scale challenges. This role has the scope to generate an enormous volume of taxes and duties that will ultimately go towards the public purse, so get in touch today to take on a role with the chance to make a real difference to the UK.
