Great in-house opportunity for a VAT specialist to join in-house tax team in Central Manchester. As a manager running indirect tax you will be responsible for compliance including VAT returns and registrations and you will also be involved in project work. This role would suit a manager from practice or someone currently working in-house. Day to day you role will involve:
o Prepare and manage the delivery of indirect tax returns to HMRC to ensure compliance with statutory tax obligations
o Provide specialist indirect tax input, advice and guidance to projects and other business initiatives to enable the Group to legitimately minimise indirect tax liabilities within risk appetite.
o Promote awareness of indirect tax across the Group, influencing and managing the business' expectations relating to indirect taxes
o Provide practical tax direction for the business to ensure indirect tax is taken into consideration in decision-making
o Negotiate, agree and keep up to date the partial exemption special method
o Manage and monitor the budgeted partial exemption VAT recovery
o Actively manage indirect tax risks to ensure that the business is not exposed to unnecessary indirect tax costs, penalties, deterioration in the relationship with HMRC or adverse public reaction
o Ensure appropriate indirect tax operational controls are in place and processes and procedures are documented
o Identify changes that require to be implemented and educate key stakeholders on these changes
o Review indirect tax processes to identify opportunities for improved controls, efficiency savings and the establish plans to realise benefits
o Keep technically up to date and ensure that the business is aware of and able to take account or advantage of new developments
o Review and interpret indirect tax legislation, determine potential impact on the Group and provide detailed advice to relevant areas of the business to ensure the business remains compliant
o Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
o Train any persons involved with the preparation of the VAT return.
Ideally a full time role our client will also consider a 4 day week or some form of flexible working arrangement. Salary in the range £40,000 to £53,000 + benefits.
