Corporate Tax Manager, UK Tax Team (newly created role)

A newly created role in the UK Tax team, supporting the Head of Tax with direct tax matters of the business in the UK. Responsibility for local direct tax compliance and reporting. Proactive engagement on local tax policy, risk management and transfer pricing matters. Assistance with advisory projects, eg. restructuring and transfer pricing.
Major Accountabilities
Corporation Tax Compliance
• Manage the accurate and timely submission of UK corporation tax returns, through coordination with Finance and external advisers
• Review the tax disclosures in the statutory accounts
• Review and advise on tax accounting for quarter end reporting
• Provide tax training for Finance teams and the wider business where appropriate
• Prepare quarterly instalment payment calculations for the UK group
• Co-ordinate and review the Transfer Pricing documentation
• Proactively review internal tax-related procedures with a view of improving processes
• Manage the annual Senior Accounting Officer process
• Manage HMRC enquiries and assist on negotiations
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with external advisers, HMRC and internal stakeholders within the business
Tax Advisory
• Manage the R&D relief which is handled in-house, through collaboration between relevant business units and Finance
• Monitor and ensure that transfer pricing methodologies have been correctly adopted
• Support transfer pricing projects as required
• Assist with the steps required in preparation for, and in response to the Corporate Criminal Offence provisions
• Proactively review the latest developments in tax rules, analysing impact of new legislation on Novartis and propose action points
• Assist the Head of Tax with the provision of day-to-day tax advisory for business units and headquarter, eg. restructuring, divestment's
• Advise on ad hoc withholding tax queries
Key Performance Indicators
• Accuracy and timeliness of direct tax returns
• Accuracy and timeliness of transfer pricing documentation
• Perceived to be a subject matter expert
• Quality of tax advice
Minimum Requirements
• University degree, ideally in a relevant subject
• ACA/ACCA qualification essential
• CTA qualification desirable English Essential
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in Corporate Tax (eg. 1 year post-qualification)
• Big 4 or large advisory firm experience essential (experienced assistant manager/manager)
• In-house experience helpful but not necessary
• Driven and proactive individual, keen to further develop tax knowledge and experience
