A Tax Assistant must demonstrate sufficient technical knowledge to undertake a relevant piece of work, use and understand legislation appropriately and produce a well supported piece of technical research.
Job Description:
Markets
• Prepares pitch documents for presentation to financiers and other professionals.
• Develops an internal network within the tax department.
Clients
• Builds good rapport with the client, with a clear understanding of client expectations and achieving high levels of client service.
• Provides general support to clients in the provision of tax advice.
• Regularly attends meetings; when appropriate, answering client queries. Takes minutes and proactively encourages the partner or manager to follow up on agreed actions.
Tax Delivery
• Produces a well supported piece of technical research.
• Produces client reports for Manager review.
• Uses and understands legislation appropriately to aid in relevant area of work.
• Provides general support to clients in the provision of tax advice.
• Assists in the preparation of tax returns and computations in conjunction with agreed timescales.
• Supports executives and managers on tax planning and other ad hoc projects
• Assists with the production of tax reports.
Client take-on / risk management
• Has an awareness of the firm's risk management procedure and adheres to this.
• Mitigates risks by involvement of senior people and ensures appropriate advice is sought.
• Builds an understanding of professional standards, ethics and risk management protocols.
Technical competence
• Retains sufficient technical knowledge to undertake relevant area of work.
• Produces well supported pieces of technical research.
• Develops an understanding of the commercial impact of tax.
People
• Is an approachable and respected member of the team who takes a proactive interest in the team's performance and well-being.
