Tax Manager, European Motor Group, Glasgow (newly created role)

The Organisation

Our client is Europe’s largest privately owned, family-run motor group selling in excess of 200,000 vehicles per year and generating annual turnover of over £3billion. Established in 1954 and headquartered in Glasgow, the company has over 150 retail and 130 service sites across the UK. The Group also comprises a car and van rental and leasing business, three purpose built training facilities and a successful insurance business.

The Role

This is a newly created permanent position reporting to the finance senior management team. The role is based in the new state of the art Head Office at Hillington, Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to work across all aspects of tax within a fast paced corporate environment.

Main areas of responsibility include:

•Corporation tax compliance for the UK group, including liaison with external advisers as required.
•IFRS tax accounting and reporting including external year end and interim reporting, subsidiary statutory accounts and quarterly instalments.
•Management of taxation processes and controls to support Senior Accounting Officer in their role.
•Expectation to take the lead role on tax work commensurate with a large group environment. Such work includes capital allowances, VAT advisory and compliance, PAYE advisory and compliance, acquisitions and disposals, property transactions, research and development, and transfer pricing.

Skills / Experience / Attributes:

•Candidates will ideally be qualified accountants (CA/ACCA or equivalent) and/or have a Tax qualification (ATT/CTA or equivalent)
•Experience of tax accounting under IFRS and UK GAAP
•Excellent Excel skills
•An excellent communicator who can make the complex simple
•Ability to work effectively as part of the wider Group accounts team
•Can demonstrate innovation in approach, with rapid response where required
