VAT Manager- London - 2 days a week in the office

A top 30 UK chartered accountancy firm is seeking a VAT Manager with career aspirations to join the VAT Department.

The VAT Department is currently led by a Partner and includes a Manager, a Senior, and a Trainee. The team handles all aspects of VAT, including VAT mitigation, negotiating with HMRC, advising on VAT property law, and compliance with VAT returns.

Role Responsibilities:

* Provide advice on VAT issues such as property transactions, charity liability, place of supply for services, and e-commerce/taxation of digital services.
* Draft instructions to Tax Counsel on liability, structuring, and dispute matters.
* Manage VAT cases progressing to ADR or tribunal.
* Conduct VAT reviews and due diligence assignments.
* Address VAT queries from clients and staff.
* Engage in technical writing and assist with webinars and similar activities.
* Assist with the management and development of junior staff.
* Undertake other ad hoc duties related to the role.

The primary focus is on delivering high-quality VAT advisory services, with additional responsibilities in compliance and staff management/development. Advisory work is expected to occupy approximately 75% of the role, with the remaining time divided between compliance and management tasks. The role also involves collaboration with the Partner on litigation matters and business development, including public speaking engagements.

Candidate Requirements:

* Minimum of 5 years' experience in VAT, including interactions with HMRC in an accountancy setting.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
* CTA qualification is preferred.
