Ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys VAT preparation and is looking to secure an in house move for a reputable UK company.

Job description

1. Preparation of the various group VAT returns (approx.60-70 per month, which are a mix of VAT groups, standalone registrations, monthly and quarterly returns) in a timely manner.

2. Liaising with relevant members in the accounts team to resolve any discrepancies/posting queries.

3. Overseeing the payment process to ensure timely payment of all relevant VAT liabilities.

4. Maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of all VAT records maintained by the business, including internal process and control documents / schedules.

5. Assisting in the setting up of new VAT registrations as required.

6. Working with the VAT Manager to resolve any HMRC pre-credit checks or other inquiries into VAT returns and liaising with HMRC on VAT related matters through the HMRC appointed Customer Compliance Manager.

7. Assisting the VAT Manager with delivering training for construction accountants to ensure that they understand and apply correct coding, e.g., in relation to the Builders' Block for VAT on residential buildings.

8. Suggesting improvements to existing processes with the objective of making VAT return preparation more efficient, implementing simplifications of existing VAT structures, and assisting with the testing and implementation of new VAT automation software.

9. Support other ad hoc VAT matters as required.

Candidate profile

1. An interest in and strong capability in VAT return processing, process improvement and technology enablement.

2. Previous exposure to VAT in a real estate context, and knowledge of partial exemption would be desirable but is not essential as training will be given by the VAT Manager.

3. Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and manage workloads.

4. Commitment to quality with an excellent eye for detail to provide continuous improvement.

5. Excellent communication and organisational skills with ability to build relationships across other departments.

6. Experience of Yardi would be a plus.
