Job description
As our Tax Accounting Senior Officer, you’ll be working within a team of 15 lively and hardworking people who are based in Stratford. They will provide you with a unique insight into how HMRC undertake the collection of taxes and the production of our Annual Report and Accounts.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to develop both their inter-personal and finance skills.
Responsibilities
Here are some things you would be responsible for in your role:
Effectively leading a small team to plan and deliver elements of the HMRC Tax Accounts within resource and timescales as detailed in the Business Plans.
Supporting the production of published accounts and financial statements through the assurance of tax accruals data, providing analysis and challenging anomalies to ensure the integrity of the data; drafting explanatory notes and other narrative; collaborating with stakeholders and managing risks to ensure agreed timescales are met.
Overseeing a critical review of the current General Ledger reconciliation processes, identifying and implementing improvements as well as ensuring that there are effective and ongoing controls in place.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across HMRC and other partners to build effective relationships; developing appropriate assurances on data provided for financial accounts and driving forward operational improvements.
Managing audits conducted by the National Audit Office; driving forward audit recommendations and providing timely updates to the Audit & Risk Committee.
Producing appropriate briefs for senior managers to enable relevant assurance of the accounts and highlight key issues.
Supporting HMRC activities to move all taxes to one general ledger (SAP) ensuring accounting requirements and general ledger codes are structured in line with reporting requirements.
Driving and supporting continuous improvement within the team.
Essential criteria:
Qualified in one of the following accountancy qualifications: ACCA, CIMA, CIFPA, ICAEW, ICAI or ICAS.
Experience in financial data analysis, showing ability to identify trends and investigate potential errors.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel.
