This role will manage the UK direct tax agenda at the level of UK companies (operating units and holding companies, if any), their overseas branches and related foreign associates, The Indirect Tax Manager will support UK Senior Tax Manager with a strong focus on indirect tax matters including but not limited to: business advisory, compliance, tax technology, international taxation, tax accounting and disclosures undertaken and assist with projects of local or global nature as required.

For clarity, this means this role also provides primary tax support to the export businesses in EMEA & Americas & Asia, supported by the AEI central tax team.

4. Key accountabilities

The Direct Tax Manager is responsible for the following key outputs and accountabilities:

1 Direct Tax Advisory & Compliance

* Management of direct tax compliance on UK as well as EMEAA markets, covering in particular: corporate income taxes and/or their equivalents, withholding taxes, transfer pricing, etc
* Review and approve direct tax submission in EMEAA countries where no dedicated tax function is present, including management of local compliance advisors
* Liaise with UK tax authorities on any day-to day direct tax queries; this also relates to countries where no tax function is present
* Reviewing and enhancing existing direct tax compliance processes and documentation
* Managing direct tax audits (with UK Senior Tax Manager and/or AEI Group Tax support) including countries where no tax function is present
* Ensure that all direct tax controls are effective and undertake suitable compliance checks for related finance processes, including GL reconciliations to payments and returns filed
* Tracking reporting of direct tax exposures, including review of impact & likelihood, along with the appropriateness of provisioning requirements, reporting this to the UK Senior Tax Manager
* Establishing best practice for internal and external direct tax reporting
* Supporting the UK Senior Tax Manager with compliance related elements of advisory projects, e.g. new direct tax registrations and the associated compliance
* Tracking direct tax legal developments, assessing their operational impact (UK & EMEAA local laws changes, OECD initiatives etc.)
* Active support of business capabilities projects to ensure direct tax issues are understood and compliance is fully managed
* Commercial transactional advice to the business - providing direct tax advice on various proposed or actual business scenarios, identifying risks and providing solutions where applicable
* Maintain and update working knowledge of direct tax laws and regulations(local and international), including new filing practices, deadlines and any business specific information. Develop a strong relationship with the business, including understanding business practices and specific tax information needs. Ensure any changes to the tax environment are flagged to the relevant departments and provide support on implementation of solutions.
* Providing relevant training or workshops to cascade key tax knowledge to the business units

1 Tax Technology

* Manage direct tax technology agenda by making effective use of tax technology and software to enhance operational efficiency of direct tax compliance
* Active support of business capabilities projects around technologies to ensure direct tax issues are understood and compliance is fully managed
* Acting as "direct tax centre of excellence" for tax technology solutions
* Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to assist with the design and developments of solutions within SAP and other tax related systems, including developing, testing, refining and implementation requirements on a timely basis
* Ensuring technology opportunities are continually identified, assessed and implemented where appropriate
* Prioritising direct tax technology requirements
* Assisting with the SAP S4/Hana project (or similar) and further support to tax maintenance of the system
* Providing support and advice on the direct tax in respect to tax technology, including for audits and other projects
* Driving tax automation (Robotic Process Automation)
* Monitoring and driving usage of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the area of direct taxes

1 Experience required

* Qualified Accountant and/or Chartered Institute of Tax qualified, Degree in Accounting or equivalent studies.
* Experience with local and international direct tax advisory services, either in a Professional Practice or an Industry role. Preferred mixed experience, i.e. both in Big4 and in-house role
* ERP (preferred SAP and Hyperion HFM) knowledge with a real, provable aptitude for understanding and mastering financial systems.
* Experience in managing Transfer Pricing matters in the international environment would be an advantage.
* Superior numeracy skills, advanced problem solving, excellent attention to detail and analytical skills with good excel modelling
* Possess good research skills and excellent communication skills
* Experience of project management
* Strong communication skills (written & oral)
* Preferred practical knowledge of IT tax tools
* Understanding of Robotic Process Automation
* Languages: English; (Spanish would be an advantage)
