Your opportunity

This grow tax policy role will focus on engagement with and responses to changing tax policy matters, including responding to consultations issued by government bodies and communicating with stakeholders to inform the business's responses. Tax Policy personnel assist in analysing and internally communicating what incoming tax policy changes will mean for the advice that the business provides to it's clients. The role will have a direct or private client tax focus, but may also involve working on more general tax policy matters.

Your role

A tax policy position is a varied role which involves a range of activities and responsibilities. The exact nature of the work to be done will largely depend on tax policy developments, but the role typically involves:

* Drafting responses to consultations issued by government bodies, such as HMRC. This will involve analysing the policy proposals and any tax technical detail available and engaging with the business's stakeholders for input on what policy proposals and announcements mean to their business areas. Some policy responses will involve meeting with HMRC, HM Treasury or others to discuss the consultation.
* Inputting into the business's response to fiscal events such as government budgets and statements.
* Communicating with the relevant tax business area. The team adapt their approach in line with their working arrangements with different business areas, but consultants may be required to attend meetings and draft succinct emails, client briefing notes and slides.
* Writing tax news notes on areas of change which are made available to the entire tax practice.
* Producing and updating the team's maintained collateral. The team is responsible for a variety of tax specialisms but, for example, the private client team have a suite of briefing notes, toolkits, spreadsheets and other materials which is updated on a rolling basis, in addition to a webinar programme providing tax policy and technical updates and training.

Your experience

Essential:

* A suitable professional qualification (e.g. Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) or Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA)), or to have passed all exams for a suitable qualification with time working in tax as the last requirement to complete before being fully qualified.
* The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
* Strong business writing skills.
* Teamworking skills, as individual in our team work with a range of stakeholders both within the team and beyond.
* This role will have a private client focus and so private client taxation experience is required. The new team member may also be involved in more general tax policy areas.
* An ability to read, comprehend and analyse tax legislation. Training will be provided where required.
