We are currently recruiting for a high calibre and experienced Tax Manager to join a Global Insurer.

This a key role within the International Tax team with responsibilities including day-to-day management of the direct tax compliance and indirect tax compliance obligations across the region (UK, Europe & Asia Pac). As well as being technically strong across both direct and indirect taxes, you will be proactive, flexible and able to demonstrate proven ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Communication is an important part of this role as you will need to communicate effectively within the finance department, other relevant parts of the business, external advisors and tax authorities.

The main responsibilities of this role will be as follows (not exhaustive):

Corporation tax compliance (40%)

- Managing the corporation tax compliance process to ensure that all of the UK, European and APAC corporate tax returns are submitted accurately and in a timely manner (circa 50 per annum).
- Review the tax UK computations prepared by Assistant Tax Managers.
- Work with local advisors to ensure that the European corporation tax returns are accurately prepared, reviewed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all UK and European corporate tax payments are made on time.
- Assist with the management of direct tax audits and liaise with external advisors as required to ensure successful and timely completion of audits.

Indirect tax compliance and audits (40%)

- Take responsibility of the day-to-day management of the indirect tax compliance across the region, liaising with external advisors where required. This includes performing a thorough review of all VAT & IPT returns and ensuring timely submission of indirect tax returns / any relevant payments made in timely manner.
- Ensure the correct application and maintenance of the company UK VAT group PESM.
- Maintain and apply indirect tax elements of the tax policy and procedures, including process notes to ensure best practices within the company group in connection with indirect tax reporting across the region.
- Assist with the management of indirect tax audits and liaise with external advisors as required to ensure successful and timely completion of audits.

Tax Governance (10%)

- Manage the Tax Governance responsibilities for the Group including ensuring all Group Tax policies are reviewed regularly and adhered to.
- Manage the review and update of the company Group Tax Strategy each year and ensure its adhered to in practice.
- Ensure the groups SAO process and Corporate Criminal Offence process are robustly documented and adhered to.

Other (10%)

- Assist with maintaining a good working relationship with HMRC and other European tax authorities.
- Ensure the technical knowledge and soft skills of the Assistant Tax Managers and the Tax Assistant are appropriate, identifying and organising any required/relevant training or development opportunities.
- Liaise with the US tax team and the business for WHT certificates and FATCA compliance matters.
- Support the wider tax team with tax input into projects, M&A transactions and business model reviews to ensure accurate and timely advice provided and indirect tax efficiencies maximised.
- Monitor legislative changes which impact the company.

Experience:

- Extensive tax experience gained in practice or in-house.
- Experience of working in a diverse tax department in a global financial services group.
- Experience liaising with senior stakeholders within the business.
- Experience of dealing with international taxing authorities and external advisors.
- Insurance industry experience.

Technical Knowledge:

- Very good understanding of UK Corporation Tax and a good understanding of international tax issues.
- Strong experience of UK and European VAT regimes within a financial services organisation.
- Proficient in Excel and other Office applications.
- ACA/ACCA and/or CTA qualified (or equivalent).

General Skills:

- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced business model.
- Desire to further develop indirect tax career.
- Relevant tax and/or accounting qualification.
- Experience of OneSource, AlphaTax and/or a VAT PX tool.
