This business is hiring a Head of Tax to lead their global tax team, sitting within the wider Finance department and as part of our Finance Senior Leadership Team. The role is primarily focused on ensuring the business meets its compliance & regulatory requirements alongside all advisory matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing the Group's global tax risk and minimising the impact of that risk on the business.
* Defining the Group's global tax strategy and identifying any direct or indirect tax inefficiencies, along with correcting processes and controls
* Reviewing and developing methods of working and reporting systems to maximise efficiency and reduce tax liabilities wherever possible within the legislative framework
* Reacting quickly to legislative changes around the globe and ensuring that they build the right systems and processes to ensure that the business can remain compliant with legislation
* Accountable for indirect tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including filing of returns, advising on structure and tax planning as well as utilising technology to reduce time spent on compliance activities while maintaining financial control and accuracy of submissions
* Accountable for corporation tax compliance along with Group's R&D tax credit process
* Accountable for ensuring customs and duty compliance across the global operation to enable speed to market of the Group's products and services
* Supporting the Payroll team to ensure that the business remains compliant from an employment tax perspective, including responsibility for ensuring the submission of the PSA and oversight of the P11d process
* Accountable and responsible for all elements of the P&L and Balance Sheet for tax items
* Accountable for providing tax provisions and supporting disclosures in support of the year end and half year processes, including audit queries and completion
* Accountable for tax work outsourced to external advisors, including ensuring appropriate advice is obtained efficiently
* Defining and executing the business's approach to transfer pricing and having overall responsibility for the maintenance of appropriate supporting documentation, along with corporate structure advice
* Liaising and managing the working relationship with tax authorities during routine audits and ad hoc enquiries, including preparation of correspondence to resolve queries, participation in meetings and proactive regular communications to all interested stakeholders
* Advising the business, and its external third parties where relevant, on the direct and indirect tax implications of projects and initiatives, and leading the implementation of tax related projects
* Leading the tax team in terms of appropriate resource and skill levels, productivity measures and development, to ensure market competitiveness
* Active contribution to Group-wide and Finance-wide strategic initiatives and objectives
* Preparation and presentation of management/board memos and training materials on an ad hoc basis

Ideal background

* CTA / ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with a background in IFRS tax accounting
* Global tax, regulatory and accounting experience, with specific experience of international Corporate Tax, VAT and Duty/Customs
* Strong knowledge in international tax matters, particularly in relation to the EU and the US
* Experience in guiding tax-related projects and process improvement initiatives
* First class communication skills and ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain co-operation
* Ability to work within and across teams, managing different priorities and expectations
* Ethical team player with good influencing skills and the ability to communicate complex tax matters to a non-tax audience
* Confident with offering constructive opportunity to colleagues concerning tax risk and compliance
* Strong people skills, with an ability to influence and manage people
* A practical and commercial approach to problem solving
* A proactive and innovative approach to process improvement and simplification
* Highly analytical with strong organisational capability enabling you to meet deadlines, organise, prioritise and allocate resources effortlessly
* People leadership and management: motivate, grow, select and augment the team to ensure the right mix of capabilities is available
