Tax Director / Partner, Top 50 Firm, to £90k (flex/ remote working)

This is an exciting opportunity offering proper tax advisory work, the cool stuff, and they are quite explicitly 'location agnostic' - They are not UK centric and work closely with longstanding relationships with accountants and lawyers outside the UK.

They offer bespoke sensible planning (no 'products' or 'tax solutions') over the lifetime of a client relationship and we would like to think their clients would otherwise go to a top six adviser and require a more personalised and responsive partner-led service at a lower cost than some of the larger firms.

Client Details

A Top 50 accountancy firm located nationally.

Description

I think it's probably important just to set out the taxonomy of a tax practice and to tell you a little about their tax advisory business. Much tax work is tax return work - processing tax returns for filing for clients. In a very real sense this is NOT tax work - because it little or almost never involves reading tax legislation. As such it is not a literate, it is a numerate activity which involves high volume low cost processing. It this respect it is like outsourcing (management accounting). Tax advisory involves meeting a client, understanding their commercial needs, flagging issues pre-emptively in advance, quoting for that work and then drafting advice and helping with implementation. Because of my clients role the work is inherently international - they have a location agnostic approach rather than a borders edge approach or dealing with simply inbound and outbound clients. As a tax practice they are fundamentally market facing and they are out in the marketplace almost daily.

In terms of clients, they are HNW private investors, successful entrepreneurs and often internationally mobile. They don't compete on price, they charge a fair price for a pro-active responsive sophisticated client facing service and the sort of clients they work with would otherwise want a Big 4+2 adviser but probably put off by the price tag and the corporate style environment of client service. They do not do schemes or products and look for a lifetime relationship with clients offering all of the firms services to them. They are close to our clients.

Profile

The role is to read, understand tax statute and case law and to write advice well in a technically correct non technical manner for clients who are successful but they are not tax specialists. They will be mixed tax - in their market place the the entrepreneur is the business and so the private client / corporate distinction so beloved of tax compliance does not apply. They will be CTA qualified - whether they are ACA or ACCA or ATT matters less. They will however be able to read and parse language to a high
