The{b] IBFD Knowledge Centre {/b]is home to most of the tax specialists within IBFD. It is a publications and research department, with staff engaged in updating and reviewing IBFD’s publications, conducting research in international tax and lecturing on various tax topics. The Knowledge Centre comprises several Knowledge Groups, focused either on particular geographic regions or on specialist international tax topics. The research staff of the Knowledge Centre is drawn from all over the world, mainly having expertise in the tax systems of various countries, as well as specialization in key areas of taxation.

Managing Senior VAT/Managing Principal VAT

The Value Added Tax Department is part of IBFD’s Knowledge Centre. This Department is responsible for covering tax developments on VAT, Customs and Excises across the world in news reports, papers, journal articles, detailed country tax guides, and domestic and ECJ case law summaries. These contributions are part of several VAT publications, like the successful and renowned Global VAT Explorer. 

The Managing Senior VAT/Managing Principal (depending on years of working experience) will be responsible for the day-to-day management of IBFD’s VAT portfolio. He/she supports and coaches his/her team members and makes sure they have the opportunity to develop themselves on a personal as well as a technical level. The scale of tasks here depends on whether he/she acts as a Managing Senior or Managing Principal. Given IBFD’s place at the forefront of providing accurate, up-to-date and practical tax information on VAT, the Managing Senior/Managing Principal will also be responsible for a unified and seamless technical and editorial process with respect to the VAT publications. In this role, he/she will work closely with the team members specialized in VAT.

In addition, the Managing Senior/Managing Principal will work closely with the Publishing, Marketing and Sales Departments to develop new propositions and strengthen IBFD’s network.

The Managing Senior/Managing Principal will report to the Manager VAT, TP and Specialist Knowledge Group.

Main responsibilities

- Supervision of the day-to-day work of the VAT team
- As a Managing Principal, you will be responsible for the budget of the department
- As a Managing Principal, you will be responsible for developing the VAT department in terms of product development and new service offerings to clients. As a Managing Senior, you will have an active role in this
- Writing notes, articles, surveys, updates and other analytical material on the assigned portfolio
- Undertaking high-quality editorial work
- Monitoring and reporting on VAT developments
- Strengthening and expanding (existing) relationships with authors, correspondents and allied organizations
- Strengthening the proposition of the VAT department in IBFD’s network, as well as in the market
- Lecturing and research activities


- University degree in law, accounting, economics or other relevant area or post-graduate qualification
- As a Managing Senior, at least 6 years of technical experience in the field of VAT is required. As a Managing Principal, at least 8-10 years of technical experience in the field of VAT is required
- Proven (project) management skills, working in teams and contributing to high-performing teams
- As a Managing Principal, you should have a proven track record of managing a team; you need to be passionate about developing and leading people
- Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills
- Excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail
- Native (or equivalent) command of the English language (knowledge of other languages will be an advantage)
- You are curious and always eager to learn

Salary & fringe benefits

Depending on background and relevant work experience, we offer a salary between:

- For a Managing Senior, EUR 4,500 and EUR 5,500
- For a Managing Principal, EUR 5,000 and EUR 6,500 (37 hrs), completed by an attractive package of fringe benefits, amongst others:
