JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior SALT / Tax Controversy Manager / Director will:
Review information presented on State sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation
Research and draft technical memoranda regarding income and franchise tax questions
Assist multi-state companies with analyzing State tax considerations/impacts related to business restructuring projects
Represent clients before the IRS, at various levels of Federal tax controversy from examination through appeals and into post appeals mediation and arbitration
Assist and oversee IRS audits, including responding to Information Document Requests, Notices of Proposed Adjustments and other exam related matters
Assist clients with voluntary disclosures to the IRS to correct compliance errors involving missed filings, withholding tax errors and other similar issues
Review penalty abatement request letters and assist in the execution of penalty abatement services in State and Federal penalty cases
Assist with targeted business development and the management and delivery of SALT services
REQUIRED SKILLS
6+ years of experience working for or dealing with the Government in the Tax Controversy space within another Public Accounting, Law, and/or Corporate Controversy firm
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Taxation; Juris Doctorate; LL.M. in Accounting and/or Taxation; and/or, Master's Degree in Taxation
Licensed CPA , Attorney and/or progress toward Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation
Solid Tax background (Sales & Use, Research & Planning, State & Local, etc.)
Microsoft Excel proficient
Solid analytical, mathematical, and research skills
Great interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong attention to detail
Highly organized
Able to multitask efficiently and effectively
